Hello Friends
What is Roblox?
If you're a teenager, part of the youth, or from the younger generation, you're probably already familiar with Roblox.
This blog is specifically for parents who have no idea what Roblox is. Many parents simply think their child is just sitting on a computer, iPad, or some other device, playing some random game. They often don’t realize what exactly their child is engaged with, or what Roblox even is.
When kids try to explain it to their parents, even they don't fully understand how to describe it. The result? Over time, a communication gap builds up. Kids begin living in one world, while the parents live in another.
So, What is Roblox?
Just like you listen to music, kids create profiles on Roblox. After creating a profile, they can join any game they want. Once inside, they start playing that game.
Some games include a special feature called Robux. Robux is a type of currency. It allows players to buy units and features within games to enhance their experience.
Roblox is actually a company currently valued at around 29 billion dollars – that’s 29 billion with a "B". So yes, it's a massive platform.
There are thousands of games within Roblox, and users can even create and publish their own games for others to play.
To earn money, creators use Robux. For example, if a player pays a certain amount in real currency (dollars, rupees, etc.), they receive Robux in return. These Robux can be used to unlock powers, buy in-game items, or simply play a game that requires payment.
If a user’s game becomes successful and more people start playing it, it climbs higher in the game playlist. More players mean more transactions, which can eventually turn into real money for the creator.
Robux has its own exchange rate and can be converted into real money. Without going into too much detail, the point is – this is a complete virtual environment.
A Vast World of Games
Roblox features a wide variety of games. Not all of them are suitable for children. Although the platform is officially meant for users aged 13 and above, we’ve seen children as young as 7, 8, 9, or 10 playing unsupervised in this environment.
As a result, these children sometimes end up playing games that are not age-appropriate.
The Social Side of Roblox
Roblox includes a chat feature, which allows users to interact. The company has implemented certain rules to help control privacy, but once a child turns 13, a new feature is unlocked where the camera and the character sync together.
For example, if your child smiles, their character smiles too. If they move their head, the character moves its head as well.
Through chat, people from different places connect and talk. Unfortunately, sometimes kids end up sharing personal information with strangers, which creates serious safety concerns.
Important Instructions for Parents
Here are some crucial steps you must take as a parent:
1. If your child is underage, do not give them unrestricted access to platforms like this.
2. Make sure your child clearly understands: Never share personal information with anyone.
3. Keep an eye on their activity. Don’t give them complete freedom online. This environment is very open, and we have seen countless cases across Pakistan, India, America, and other countries.
